I hope so or else I'll have to add them all again. Please help me if you can. The dealer is clueless in this regard.
That is an unfair comparison. What would happen if you bought a new Garmin GPS? Could you transfer your saved locations from the old one to the new one? If that is possible, then you have a valid point. With a portable GPS (like the Garmin), it is technically feasible to transfer data from one GPS to another, since they are all connectible to a personal computer. I don't think they provide that function, but they could. The navigation system in a car is an isolated system. It is not connected to any common device, like a personal computer. It is not even technically feasible to transfer the data from one to another. I believe the answer to the original question is that you have to reenter all of your saved locations into the new navigation system, just as if you had purchased a new portable GPS.
Your point about it being an unfair comparison may be valid. However, it's certainly quite possible to transfer all the waypoints from one Garmin to another, with a computer in the middle. I know because I recently did just that. I had probably about 50 important waypoints on my old Garmin GPSMap 60CSX, and when it started giving me problems, I bought a Nuvi model. A few moments hooking each up via USB to the computer, and presto! All my waypoints are now on the Nuvi. Which brings up another reason why it's hard to part with my Garmin, even though I have Nav on my Prius. When I go on vacation, I typically do a fair amount of research on my computer, figuring out my route, hotels, places to see, etc. While I'm doing the research, I can enter the locations on my Garmin, so I can drive directly to all my identified POIs. With the Nav system, you basically have to wing it. I'm still going back and forth between the two. I'd like to wean myself from the Garmin, since it's certainly not as clean looking in the car. But the Garmin keeps calling me back.
It...was...a...joke... And yes, it is very easy to transfer POIs from one Garmin to another if you install the Garmin maps and app on you computer.
YES, it is possible and I have done it many times.... The Garmin software in my mac handles all database that be transfered to another Garmin. Easy! There we go... I can't miss this extra chance to say how much my Garmin blows the Prius NAV out of the water, not only in value but also in quality and fetaures... ... I know, you're getting tired of it...
