I have one of those carpet dash covers, which I like because it adds color and protects the dash. In addition to that, I sometimes put a rectangular rear seat carpet floor mat over the top of the MFD to act as a glare shield. It works well but I was wondering if I'm in danger of overheating the MFD unit. The carpeting does shield the unit from direct sun, but is that enough to offset its own heat generating capability?

I think the sun protection out ways any heat build up. Besides if you notice, there are no heat vents in the dash for the MFD. LCD screens don't get as hot as CRT screens, so I don't see an issue with the dash mat.

I'm going to try this. It does get hot in front of the MFD but I don't think the top of the dash is a radiator.
