As part of the new federal budget, Canada has extended/adjusted the federal Incentive for Zero Emissions Vehicles. The amount have not changed ($5,000 for EVs, and $2,500 for PHEV with lesser EV capability), however the rules of how they qualify have changed a bit. In summary, now they will measure based on All Electric Range (>50km) rather than battery size (>15kWh) as it was previously, to determine whether the vehicle is entitled to the full or partial incentive. As a result, this upgraded the incentive for a couple existing PHEV SUVs. As always, provincial incentives layer on top of this, if available. https://tc.canada.ca/en/road-transportation/innovative-technologies/zero-emission-vehicles/list-eligible-vehicles-under-izev-program Some potential good news could be that although the current Prius Prime is rated in Canada for 40km and only gets the lesser rebate, IF Toyota does squeeze an ~11KWh battery into the next PP (to match Kia, etc), then it *may* creep over the 50km range line in the sand, and qualify for the larger incentive… One can hope…
Hummmm, don't quite follow iZEV philosophy in establishing rules for PHEV qualifying rules. I believe they should use the carbon dioxide emission (g/km) to establish the incentives. as for the provinces , increasing the speed limit or contemplating an increase ,again contributes to increase carbon dioxide...go figure In the province I live in , well they will reduce the incentives for PhEV going from $4000 to $2500 on elegible models. two steps forward....one step backward.
