2004 Prius (I'm the original owner so I've done the chicken dance a number of times over the years with success). It's only had 3 fobs paired this new fob is the 4th. I'm using my original fob (black case) it looks rough but works perfectly. Both fobs have fresh batteries and light up. Giving the car to my daughter and I want her to have more than 1 fob. Picked up a new (unused silver logo) fob from amazon. First part of chicken dance worked fine and the car starts and dives around with no trouble. It's the 2nd part that is just not happening. I've tried every variation I can find online (inserting key 2/2/1 and 2/1/1 closing door 2/2/1 and 3/3/1) the car just won't go into "add mode". No matter what I do when I get to step 8 of the stickied post "remove fob and your doors will lock and unlock" and it just sits quietly. No flashes other than the red 'alarm' light that always flashes whenever the car's turned off. So, the only other information I think my matter is that the 'beep' for the door open/key in ignition stopped working a couple years ago. It still beeps when it starts up just not for the key. Anyone run into this before?
This is your problem - you can't use a SKS fob (silver backed) in a non-SKS (black backed) and vice versa. They are different systems and not interchangeable.
I've tried getting into confirmation mode and rewrite mode with the same result. So it's not the new fob that's causing the problem, the new fob hasn't even come into play. because it hasn't even come into play at the point the door chicken dance fails. (But I did order a new black fob from one of the links I found on this site) I can't get the working fob to put the car to go into any "mode". Here's what it looks like: Door open all unlocked Key x 2 Door x 2 (Some variations say door x 3 at this point) Key x 1 (Some variations have key x2 at this point) Door x 2 (Some variations say door x 3 at this point) Door close Key in Power button - car “on off” 1x Add Mode 2x Rewrite Mode 3x Confirm Mode 4x Prohibit Mode Remove fob.... Car will cycle the doors <---- THIS Doesn't happen regardless of what mode I'm trying to get the car to go into. Has anyone dealt with this issue? Where the car won't go into any mode? What did you do to fix it?
Perhaps the car already has the maximum number of keys in its memory? Might help to have a scantool that could check that out. Or use it to just do the "add a key" procedure (without any dancing chickens involved). Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
