Aggh! So frustrating. Sometimes out of the blue, I simply cannot edit a post. I make the changes and click save. The thing just spins forever. Will never actually save. I can post a new reply, but can't edit my old one (Unless I remove all content and just put back a few words). I can remove the whole content and re-paste my post... and it still won't save. Seems to just do this randomly, and it drives me more nuts than I already am! I think I've reported it before... and since it just happened to me twice, I figured I'd report it again.
Next time that failure happens, try doing the same edit as an Advance Edit. I think that for some reason, Advance Edit doesn't fail as often as the normal Edit. Perhaps it's happenstance, but Advance Edit hasn't failed for me yet.
Same experiences for me in editing. As Tom (Boo) already suggested hit the "advanced" button - it has worked for me.
Yeah Quick Edit doesn't seem to work for me (maybe it's b/c the Quick Reply isn't there either and maybe when Danny removed the Quick Reply, he forgot to remove the Quick Edit). Just used the "Advanced Edit"
I actually think the problem with the Quick Edit is somehow linked the problem we're having with the Quick Reply. Something with the AJAX calls, I think. I've been putting off spending hours looking for a solution since vBulletin is supposed to be releasing 3.7 soon and if it continues after that software upgrade then I'll really dive into it. But for now the best work-around I've found is the use the Advanced Edit. Actually, I might just go ahead and remove the Quick Edit option...
Probably not such a bad idea... The oddest part for me is that it won't allow me to edit out some type-o's in a huge piece that I've just spent an hour on, but it WILL allow me to cut 99% of it out and post the remaineder as an edit! ** editing for fun to add this. ** Is the quick edit now gone? All I can do is click the "edit" button - as I never before used advanced edit... is this what's happening now?
That's right, I disabled the Quick Edit for now. Let me know if you have any problems with the "Advanced Edit".
What Happened to the Edit Button? Wow Craig -- I didn't notice until you mentioned it ... the EDIT button has been disappeared. Probably a temporary glich. I think I last saw that EDIT button and edited a post early this morning. EDIT: Now the EDIT button appeared in this post, but not in my prior posts.
Note that the option to edit your post now expires after one hour. Perhaps editing old posts caused server slowdowns, or maybe there was too much revisionism :_>
i hope i can edit old post, would like to clean up page images to make it load faster and put my video there instead of deep in the thread. can anyone verify this?
I still had a serious edit issue yesterday right after posting. Just sat and did nothing just like before. I tried it again, and of course ended up with two identical posts. :sigh:
Yeah, yesterday seemed to have been a bad day. PC was shut down several times for maintenance/upgrades, and when it was up it seemed painfully slow all around.
I'm not seeing an "edit" option either, and can't find anything about "advanced edit". If the option to edit is TIMING OUT on my own posts, that's VERY bad, please fix that. I've got one in a running thread that I spotted some pretty lame typos in [actually whole missing sentence fragments] and I need to be able to go back and change it. . Losing the ability to control my own posts would be a major factor in bailing out of any forum site, and I'm relatively certain I'm not the only one who feels that way. . _H*
Ok, ok! The people have spoken! I've re-enabled the ability to edit your own posts up to an indefinite time. I just wish there was a way for it to keep the last revision for moderators to view so that we can retrieve data when a member gets a little pissy and decides to remove all of their content from the site. BTW, I'm really really sorry about the performance issues. I'm talking to a couple of different consultants right now about fixing things and trying to pull together the money to pay them.
