SO... Capacitors. No....not "flux" capacitors, Marty....but rather electrical capacitors. They're simple. Only 2 non-moving components, conductors and an insulator. They're OLD. They've been around since the 40's. The 1740's. We use them in electronics for all manner of things, as a spit can for storing an electrical charge, or for filtering, The power industry uses them as a reactive source for non-resistive loads, but the humble capacitor also has one important super power: They BLOCK D.C. - or direct current.
