Along the way it will run the HV battery down into the dreaded pink/purple zone, then start the ICE to refill the HV, ICE shuts down, cycle repeats ad no-gasium. Leaving the car running for short errands is one of the "Hypermilers'" tricks to get super high MPGs. By doing so you don't go through repeated progressions through all the low MPG, four Holy Stages of Prius Warmup as the CPU remains at the highest stage attained.
