Drove to a friend's last night. My wife had the key in her purse, but I was driving. After we all got out of the car and shut all the doors, I couldn't lock the car with the outside button. I eventually opened the door & locked it. After coming back out, the car unlocked fine and started fine, so the SKS was working. Why could't I lock it?
i find that when my wife gets out on the passenger side with the key in her purse, i cannot lock the drivers side. it must be the proximity to the antennae receiver in the drivers door.
The Prius has sensors in the driver's door, the front passenger door, the rear bumper, as well as the car's interior. It can determine if the fob is outside the car and which sensor the fob is located closest to. If it determines that the fob is outside the car, the Smart system will only react to a user input near the closest sensor to the fob. If it determines that the fob is inside the car, the Smart system will not react to any user input outside the car.
Douglas, The SKS system works "exactly" as Patrick Wong described it. No problems on your end. It is working normally. You might ask her to push the button for you if she is going to carry the fob.
We only have one right now and she's the primary driver so she usually has it. I'm going to get a second after the expenses of Christmas are passed.
