Recently I started noticing audio problems on the cd player on my Prius v. At first I thought it might be the CDs that were defective but now I'm seeing problems when trying to play most music or audiobook CDs. This is what I'm seeing - When inserting the CDs it might take a long time where display says 'reading...' before any sound starts. Sometimes no sound plays at all. Sometimes little bits of audio play intermittently after several minutes. Sometimes the audio tracks will play but they're very scratchy sounding. No problem when playing the radio. There is definitely a cd problem. Anybody else seeing this? Do you know of a way to diagnose the problem or fix it? Thanks.
You can try using a CD laser cleaning disk to resolve the issue. In my case (a 2004), It did not work so I installed a salvaged CD unit. When that also started having problems, I needed a permanent solution. The solution that worked was going to a good car stereo shop and installing a good 3rd party stereo unit. Jeffd
I will try the cd lens cleaner option. Any recommended brands of cleaners with positive results? I checked the Toyota manual on cd player. One thing they said was to not leave the cd in the cd player when not in use. I always used to remove the cd when shutting down the car. But I stopped doing that. Several people said that it does not matter whether you leave the cd in or not. Maybe I messed up my cd player by leaving the cd in.
