Hi- There are 2 things I want to change on my '10 Prius- 1. Would like the smart key to open all the doors when the handle is touched, not just the driver's door (understand this is a safety feature, but I would like to be able to just touch the driver's handle while I put my son in the back behind the driver seat, so my daughter can just go around and get in her seat behind the passenger side, without having to get the key fob out). Understand, some of you have done this. 2. Would like to turn off the reverse beeping sound. **Went to dealer today (not such a good experience). Said they could change #1 for the smart key, but they wanted $104 for an hour's labor charge. Said they "would not touch" #2, reprogramming the reverse beep, until the car was at least out for 6 months, was messing with the electrical system, was a safety feature, blah, blah. (Also, an FYI, had a hell of a time getting my deposit back from this dealer who could not get my prius that we wanted-we put a 45 day time frame on the contract. When I called them, they said yeah, just come in with the contract, no problem. When I got there, I seemed to get the run around at first, was toted from one place to the other, etc, etc. After an hour, with 2 fussy kids in tow, I finally got the deposit back on the card. Just a horrible morning, and will not go back here). So, if any of you could provide some advice on changing the above as mentioned that would be great. In my opinion, Prius Chat members are usually more knowledgeable and helpful than most of the dealers and their people.
I think the smart key change is covered in the manual. You can do it yourself. I had the dealer change my backup beep to "single beep" before delivery free of charge. I have seen people being asked $50+/- you yours is a new record. My dealer was more than happy to do it (once I told them they could). They even waxed the car for me before delivery.
For the first one, the programming is explained in the manual. Look in the index under Customizations, or start at page 587. If I remember correctly you just hold down the lock and unlock buttons on the remote until the car beeps twice (three times?) to change from driver's door to all doors. There are many many threads already on the reverse beep issue, and how the dealer has to do it.
Both situations covered in other threads: re #1 hold down both lock & unlock buttons on key fob for 5 seconds or so, until you hear two sets of two beeps - four beeps total, and all doors will unlock upon your grabbing drivers door handle. Do this proceddure again and yoou revert back to original setting. Re #2 Go to another dealer if you can't get these folks to do this SIMPLE task for you. I takes dealers & their hand held computer unit plugged in under dash less that 5 minutes to do this - potty break included. Check manual to determine if there are other dealer-programable settings you want changed at the same time. No charge for #2 by my dealer!!! I taught dealer about #1; didn't charge him a thing!!!
Thanks everyone! Already did the programming, so now all doors unlock when drivers door touched. Took all of 5 seconds. Can't believe dealer wanted to charge an hour's worth of labor for this. UGH! As for reverse beep, I will go ahead and bring it to another dealer sometime in the near future.
