Went to Consumers Energy to charge my Prime only to find out the J1772 plug won't insert into my charge port, I kept pushing and pushing and PUSHING! So I finally looked at the end of the J1772 and found this ( see pic). I promptly got out my house keys and pried it out of the connector. It charged fine after the removal of the rubber gasket.
Yep. On the EVSE that came with the first-generation Plug-in Prius, that gasket was orange. Eventually, Toyota started telling people to just remove and discard the gasket.
