Was thinking at this point in the space time continuum, I need at least two rims for spares as I lost a brand new factory tire due to a road hazard. All the glue in the world could not put humpty dumpty back again. 17/7 I believe although I could do a cheap steel 15" rim with tire. Saw another thread where all the 15" doughnuts may fit. Free towing would not have helped since the tire could not be repaired and I would be at the mercy of the dealer on what they put on the vehicle. . Maybe I worry too much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Two vehicles in the family with this size rim. 2016 and 2019 I thought I was covered with the free towing but there is a loophole.
Depends if you want to go with 195/65R15 for a spare, or the more compact temp tire size. For the 195/65R15 I'm using this (with snow tires): Corolla 15" black steel rims p/n: 42611-02471 They were $70 CDN apiece in fall of 2010, but have gotten strangely expensive on EBay. I've noticed at local dealership snow tire display they appear to still have them in stock. I would check with dealership, might be the easiest/cheapest source. For temp spare, there's a puzzling difference, third gen vs fourth gen spare. This is even though the stock 15" tire and wheel are the same, as far as I know. The temp tire sizes are shown in the Owner's Manuals. Third gen: Fourth gen: If you plug the two temp tire size into an online tire calculator, you'll see the 16" (3rd gen) option is much closer to the stock 195/65R15 Outside Diameter (25"). Accordingly, for a temp spare, I would go for the 16" tire size, and a 3rd gen temp spare rim. A couple of sources: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Yokohama&tireModel=Y870B&partnum=38MD6YOTEMP Spare Wheel - Toyota (42611-20841) | Toyota Parts It's interesting, if I plug in the Corolla steel rim p/n at McGeorge (the rims I got for $70 CDN apiece), I get a pretty stratospheric price: Wheel, Steel - Toyota (42611-02471) | Toyota Parts Again, check with local dealerships, who knows.
Almost $130 for a 17 7 " aluminum rim and another $99-130 for the tire at tire rack. Total around 233-260. Big load and not practical except for long trips. If I went that route I would leave it in the garage and have someone bring me the tire. Almost tempted to do the junk yard trick if I can find one in good condition at a good price/not! You route would be less that $200 and will probably fit under the mat with some effort.
