    Hey guys, I have a 2015 Prius package two that's a lease.
The other day I was taking it in for its 10,000 mile maintenance, and I pulled out a fuse that I connected my DRL lights with the Main power( so the drl lights would be on with the head lights). The car was on and the check hybrid system light came on. The car would not move only stayed in park and neutral. I had Toyota care come pick it up and they said that if there's any issues that the warranty won't cover it. Does anyone know how I can get the warranty to cover any damages if there is any. The tow truck driver said he thought the car Might think it's being stolen because I did unplug the battery for about 15 minutes to try to reset the check hybrid system.

which battery did you unplug? the 12v wouldn't do anything, but if it was the hybrid, you probably didn't slide the connector closed properly.

Many times, a Check Hybrid System error condition will eventually clear after the initial condition that caused it is rectified.

It might take about 5 to 10 On/Off cycles to Ready Mode though.

Hello, I did. I saw on one of the forms someone explain that if you take a little wire and connect the DRL fuse to the ignition fuse that the drl lights would turn on when the car is on. I didn't remove the wire and replaced the plugs. But I accidentally left the car on so when I pulled the main power fues check hybrid system light came on.

I unplugged the battery in the back. On the right side. Just the single battery.

Hello, I turned it on and off about 10 times. As well as I held the break and the power button for about 15 seconds. But the car would not get out of park or neutral.

Pulling fuses while car On =bad. :(

However, I doubt that any permanent damage was done.

See my post above and cycle the car On/Off however many times it takes to reset the error condition.

Yea I thought the car was off. UnFortunately the cars in the dealer right now. I gave it to them Saturday around two and they've had it this whole time because of the holiday weekend. They're supposed to be looking at it today and letting me know if there's any issues. The service guy at Toyota of Orange kept saying all the fuses were moved. And then I told him only one fuels touched. And he was saying that warranty doesn't cover if I touch the fuse. But I only told him that I removed the DRL fuse to see if they stayed on. Do you know of any way where I can get The dealership to cover it under warranty. Ive only had the car for six months

You should've posted to the forums first, before taking it in to the dealership. That was your first mistake.

Then, you admitted to messing with the fuses. That was your second mistake.

When taking a car in for a problem, it's best to play dumb, don't admit anything that can be used against you.

If they call you saying that it will cost a lot to fix, decline whatever they are recommending. Go to your car on the dealer's lot and reset the car doing what I outlined above. Then drive away.

Crap! This is my first new car. And I tried to play the honesty game and I was hoping they would just tell me over the phone how to resolve the problem.

Do you think if I go to the dealer and say that the check hybrid light was on first and I touched the fuse after to make sure it was in correctly. I'm trying to see what I can do to not get screwed with a bill.

They're supposed to get authorization from you, the owner, before doing any work. So decline any services.

They may charge you for performing diagnostic testing on your car though. Usually something like $90.

Yea they said it $110 diagnostic.
I'm assuming if there is nothing wrong that they should be able reprogram it and it should be fine. The weird thing was that he said they could diagnose it and nothing could be wrong. Doesn't that mean they should've just been able to rest it from get go.

If they want to charge me can I take it to another dealer and play dumb and say idk why it came on? Or does it go into a database and all the dealers know about it?

Not necessarily, they'll typically run a diagnostic to find out what caused the error message/condition.

The Check Hybrid System error condition is a very generic message.

For example, I was probing some circuits in the fuse box with my voltmeter and I used a bolt on the inverter cover for a ground point. The next time I turned the car on it gave me the Check Hybrid System error message. I initially panicked, but tried turning the car off and on a couple of times and the error cleared.

After Googling the error, it was probably caused by an unexpected ground or voltage through the inverter that caused the message.

The service employee just call me right now saying one of the prongs were bent in the DRL port and there was no connection. But I saw the lights were on and working. He said it's going to be $250 to fix

Decline the repair and tell them you will be picking up your car.

Reset the error yourself, if they haven't already (posted above). Then your car will probably be fine.

He said there was a bent prong in the fuse box.
