Had a flat 12v battery, not sure what caused it? Took battery off, recharged it, put it back on, got the dreaded check hybrid system come up. Mobile hybrid guy came out, cleared it, and all fine. But he didn't say why check hybrid system came up on the screen, and he didn't say why 12v battery was completely flat. Wondering if anyone could shed any light on it please. If it happens again, is it possible to sort this myself, and save myself a couple of hundred pounds by not having to call out hybrid specialist? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
welcome! generally, the 12v dies from leaving a door ajar/dome light on. the hybrid warning is just from the transient voltage of charging. how old is the 12v? if original, replace it before it strands you somewhere
Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure how old the 12v battery is? It's not original tho. Car wouldn't do anything after the battery was fully charged, as check hybrid system, was on the screen. Is there anyway I can reset this myself, if it happens again? Breakdown man couldn't connect diagnostics to my car, and had no clue about what was wrong with it. Mobile hybrid man, cleared it, and had car running in 2 minutes. Can I buy a scanner, that resets check hybrid system? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
There is a sticker on the battery that will read month/year battery was made. Don’t reset the CEL until you get the codes so you’ll know what to troubleshoot.
I think the Owner's Manual says to remove the 12 volt battery before charging? Anyway: I NEVER do that, have the charger on more often than not (not kidding, we're low usage, and I'm using a CTEK 4.3 with quick connect installed).
