Last Thursday, Chrysler Group announced that they would be offering the first full-size diesel SUV for the Canadian and American market, but yesterday they mentioned that they were putting an end the production of the Liberty Diesel. Since its launch in January 2005, Jeep sold nearly 11,000 Liberty Diesel in the United States only. DaimlerChrysler could not make the Liberty's diesel engine meet the new and more strict federal emission standards, taking effect next year, while keeping the price competitive, said the company spokesperson. I know several people who bought them and converted them to biodiesel, and I saw a couple bio Liberty Diesels at a sustainable living exhibit last weekend. Seems to be the most popular vehicle for conversion.
