I’ve had an intermittent clatter almost like a rattler snake rattle in my driver’s floorboard forever. I understand that it has to do with the hydraulic brakes pump. it is going off a lot more. Like 2 to 3 times every time I brake/accelerate. and maybe more in hot weather? Anybody know if this is a sign of something else going wrong or needing some sort of maintenance. I have 140,000 miles and still on original brakes. The brakes looked OK but I don’t know much about brakes. Looks like the feeler is quite a bit of ways from the Disc.

Generally the brake booster (master cylinder/abs/pump) system is leaking pressure internally causing the pump to run more often. At some point it is likely to code as it gets worse but normally it stills works even at that point.

Typically it's several thousand at a dealer with the part representing half of the total. There are no aftermarket or rebuilt options, although some chance it with a used brake booster. Given used is twenty years old now most would buy new.
