    Hey everyone!

I am new to the forum and I own a 2006 Prius, and I'm hoping I can get some advice into an issue I started having yesterday. I had pulled into a drive thru and I looked down at my dash and some lights had lit up, the VSC, the circle with the exclamation point and the check engine light were all on and when I looked over at the place where you shift for the transmission all of those lights were flashing. I took it to a Midas and they hooked it up to their computer and they pulled the code U0293 and he said that it means the hybrid system isn't communicating but that I could still drive it and it would just be using the gasoline instead of both systems. I pulled out on to the road and I almost got to the stoplight and it slammed into park! I was able to put it back into drive and we got it into a parking lot and my sister started moving some wires under the passenger seat and some of the lights shut off except the check engine light stayed on, we tried to drive it going like 5 mph and it slammed into park again. We tried to check some of the fuses, but all of the ones we pulled out looked fine and none of them were burned up. We were like an hour and a half away from home so my brother in law brought the trailer and we got it home, but this morning when we hauled it to the shop I started it up and it started fine, but when I tried to shift into reverse it wouldn't let me and I could only get it in neutral. If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it!

    welcome!
start with your 12v health. if that is good, you'll have to go to a toyota dealer for a prius aware code reader, unless you plan on doing repairs yourself, then, you should buy one.

    how many miles on her?

Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll check it out! Do you know where I could find one of those code readers? The mileage is just over 169,000 and a couple of months ago I replaced the inverter coolant pump, it’s been a really good car and I haven’t had any problems until recently. I’m a little bit stressed out about so I thought I’d check and see if anyone knew anything. But thanks for the tips!

    Took it to Midas? lol...

Thee most inexpensive and expedient thing you can do it purchase your own Hybrid Capable OBD II code reader and pull all the codes (the dash lights means theirs codes) the car has logged. The car will tell you exactly why its unhappy. Post them back here and we will tell you whats wrong with the car.

Whatever it is, its not good. The slamming into park is a first it may just be the brakes are locking up and you lost the abs actuator which is a common and very expensive issue. Codes will tell you. Anything else is a guess....if you take it to the dealer they will guess too at $140 an hour.

Buy: Hybrid Capable code reader on Amazon.com called VXDIAG powered by Techstream $77.
Works with a laptop same software the dealer uses.

That's what I have works great. Your going to need one anyway real soon when your hybrid battery fails.

The good thing about the reader and software is you can use it on any Toyota from 1996 on.
