would a bad combination meter cause the car to not start up? And does anyone know where I could find a new decent priced combination meter?
A no start issue is usually battery related. You should look at that first What year is your car? Can you install a combination meter if you were too just buy the parts?
I have seen it reported where there seems to be an association, but on the face of it I'd say no. As JC said, more likely that a poor 12 V battery has caused CM issues. Maybe it is a case of the "appearing" not to start, because you expect to see the CM lit up and you don't. Try Matt @Texas Hybrid Batteries who is a member here and offers repaired CMs.
It an 06 and yeah No the car definitely would not shift gears. But yes if I had the part my dad can fix it. My car wouldn't start for two days and I got it towed to Toyota and they said it stArted fine after a few try's. but the battery is new. I took it to autozone when the car wouldn't start and they said it had a full charge.
If the combination meter is not working, you may think the car is not starting. Remember the prius at startup is quiet for about 10 seconds and then the motor starts. If the combination meter out and you don't wait the 10 seconds, you may think the car didn't start
If that's the case, I'd contact Matt at Texas Hybrid Batteries and talk over your symptoms. If it is the CM, then you can a replacement from him.
