Coming up on 140k miles on my 2014 Prius V and I'm going to do a preemptive water pump replacement while cleaning EGR. I see various discussions about people replacing their thermostats when they have coolant issues, but how many have actually been bad? I'm weighing the relatively minor cost of thermostat + housing replacement vs. the minor risks associated with replacing it (mainly creating a problem or leak where there isn't one right now). Thank you!
If money is a limiting factor I would forego the thermostat if it meant I could get an oem pump rather than aftermarket.. Regardless I would keep my old one because I believe if it's not broken don't fix it. 330k miles later on my v, originals are still fine but I have drained and filled the coolant about ten times.
