While transferring junk from the trunk of one car to another, I thought it would be really cool to dump the air compressor that I had in the older Prius. Took apart the tire repair kit in the PiP, only to discover that the only way to use that compressor is to hook it up to the bottle of goo. Blah! Is there some way to use the supplied compressor alone, without the gunk??
I had mentioned in a previous thread that you can pump the goo out of the Prius fix-a-flat container, rinse it out then simply use it as a hose connector to the compressor. If you don't want to do that- Harbor Freight has a small compressor for $8.99 that works as well as the Toyota compressor and connects directly to the tire: Harbor Freight $9 Compressor: BTW- according to the PIP manual, it seems the Toyota goo is not TPMS sensor safe!
Yeah, I saw that, but was hoping for something else. I don't need to buy another compressor – I already have one! The idea is to get rid of stuff, not buy more of it And yes, I saw that too! Couldn't believe my eyes. Absolutely ridiculous that they put such a kit in the car as a supposed replacement for a spare. Gross.
In this world, it is an unfortunate reality, in this "throw-away society," that it will cost you less to buy a whole new compressor than to modify and adpt the one that you already have.
Here's how the system works. I would imagine you can still use the pump even with the container being empty by using fix-a-flat or something similar first, then using the pump to finish the job.
