My 2012 Prius (PHV) has recently completely lost cruise control. I can't enable or engage cruise control under any circumstances any more... otherwise my Prius is in good shape. Is this a known issue with 3rd generation or other Toyota models?
Not under warranty. If it were just the brake switch, seems like I should still be able to engage the cruise control mode and just not be able to cruise at any speed (?) Yes, I've ruled that one out!
I know if VSC is activated it disables cruise. But that would be a yellow light. And your ABS isn't activating because of a problem with a wheel sensor. That would be another yellow light. Steering column stalk switch maybe. All these things you've probably already thought about. Fuses maybe. You can eyeball them but it's always best to pull the fuse and check continuity. I'm not so sure that if the brake pedal cruise defeat switch is stuck you can still enable cruise. I know you could on other manufacturer older cruise control systems. You could turn it on and see that it was on but you wouldn't be able to engage the system. I'm all our of guesses.
how many miles on her? we don't hear it too often, but sometimes it's the spiral cable from the steering wheel.
It didn't occur to me to check fuses, but I will now. I hope it's an easy fix as that Defective steering column stalk seems like a possibility too. 130K miles over 5 years. I guess I'm way out of warranty. I have to take the car in for the 2010-2012 model year curtain shield air bag recall notice, so I plan to ask dealer service to look into these other culprits as well.
