Hey People, My cruise control doesn't work anymore. There is no blinking/cruise icon on the dash--period. Is this the result of the button being worn out or a relay/fuse? My little tank has 231k, so it has been used. BTW, I can't seem to find a write up for replacing the switch. Is there one? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Make sure your inverter coolant pump is working. No CC is one of the symptoms of the inverter overheating.
Thanks for the tip. I didn't know that. But my inverter coolant pump has already been replaced. Plus, wouldn't there be a Red Triangle if the inverter was overheating? I think I can rule that out, since it won't engage in the cold morning. Thanks.
It could also be the clock spring in the steering shaft. It is what connects the wiring but allows them to turn freely. It will be warn out over time with just using the steering wheel even without using the buttons.
I will definitely check the clock spring. Does anyone know what it kind of looks like? Any tips on removing the steering covers? Thank you and I will keep you posted.
Keeping you guys posted...bought a new cruise control stalk, and the problem still persists, cruise engages when it feels like it. I going to take some stuff a part tomorrow, going after that clock spring.
Not sure how to get to the clock spring, but I would suspect that since you have already eliminated the switch on the stalk. The problem exists in all cars, not just the Prius. It is a common thing that wears out over time. My local mechanic had to change one on another car I had years ago as stuff on the steering wheel quit working. Once he changed it, everything worked again. If you run into trouble and you know a good mechanic you trust, ask him or her to look at it. Good luck to you. Ron
Alright people...keeping you guys posted. I got to the clock spring. One must take off the whole steering wheel. I am buying a new one off ebay. This is probably the problem, since it is always moving around. I don't think I will try to fix it because my car has 236k, so it is probably worn out. Ebay has new OEM quality for $60. OEM new is about $150 on ebay. Stealership: $300 Again, I will keep you guys posted when I receive/install it. Heck, I think I should do a write up. Peace.
Okay People, I got the clock spring and installed it today. It appears to work much better. I can turn the steering wheel in any degree and engage the cruise, which was not the case with the old clock spring. I was going to do a write up, but there are plenty of posts in regards to the clock spring. Thanks for chiming in people. Peace.
Hey People, The DAMN cruise control problem is back. I wonder if I should of bought an OEM clock spring. My 12v battery is less than 2 years old, I am not driving in B mode, replaced the combination meter a few months ago, so what do you guys think now? Also, airbag light is on and some buttons on the steering wheel are malfunctioning. BTW, car has 271k.
So what did you end up doing? Did you get a brand new Clock Spring from Toyota and that fixed it or did you decide not to fix it?
I just wanted to thank you for posting followups. I have the same CC problem but other lights are okay. Dealership just tells me to buy a new car (nope). Local independent said it's quite expensive to fix, and not critical - this is true. SImilar situation to my wife's in-dash clock not working; repair is not worth it.
