From what I read the run away problems are caused by parts made by CTS Corp in the good old USA. All our Prius are built in Japan and do not have the CTS part in them, that's my 2 cents.
I googled up some news articles on this subject yesterday. One said that no CTS accel pedals were used on Prius until 2005 (or after). Would have to retrace my steps to find that, and the media source may or may not be perfectly accurate.
No need. Use the pics that... I think it was deadphish? provided and we just need to look underneath and identify which accelerator it is. They're distinctly different. We have enough members here.
The question should be is it a CTS design or a Toyota design? The fact that CTS exclusively manufactured a Toyate designed part does not mean that it is the fault of CTS. It is Toyota's responsibility to assure that they are using properly designed and manufactured parts. They FAILED TO DO THIS!!
Some points of clarification: CTS is incorporated in the USA. However, the pedal assembly in question was made in one of their plants in Canada. It is not clear who designed the pedal assembly. While there are necessary external similarities between the CTS unit and the Denso unit also used by Toyota, the internals are entirely different and may simply represent the manufacturer using in-house, familiar designs/technology to meet performance specs, as opposed to design specs, to meet Toyota's needs. For very detailed info and comparisons of the CTS and Denso pedal assemblies visit The Truth About Cars website.
Still: It is Toyota's responsibility to assure that they are using properly designed and manufactured parts!!
Yep, it's unclear. From http://edition.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/02/02/lahood.toyota.recall/index.html: QUOTE]the Toyota official was very adamant that Toyota is not blaming the supplier. He said CTS and other suppliers design these parts to Toyota's specifications. This is a Toyota part, he says, and Toyota takes responsibility for it[/QUOTE] Also Manufacturing & Engineering : Statement from Toyota on Supplier CTS / Toyota is trying to defuse the finger pointing at CTS.
