Any recommendation for a Dash Cam for my Prius ? Do Dash Cams record audio or video or both? I have been thinking of getting a camera for a long time but recent events like Sandra Bland has provided greater impetus to buy and install one so I have some visual recording that can be used to protect me(or against me ) Am told Cam has to be hard-wired and looking for step by step instructions. Thanks!
I use a Mobius action cam (wide angle) which is suction mounted right under the rear view mirror. I love it! Quality video/sound and super small and you can configure them to turn on automatically when power is applied. It's mounted and I never have to worry about it as it turns off on its own and when the memory card fills it starts overwriting. I also purchased a Mobius dash mount kit which comes with a proper length USB power cord, suction mount and some other items. Highly recommend. As for cable routing I have it tucked under between the windshield and headliner an down the a pillar and under the glove box and plugged into the power outlet under the glove box. I'm considering getting a second one and mounting it in the back as well.
I use Garmin 20 dashcams in my Prius and my hybrid Avalon. Great quality video and sound recording - convenient as the plug is only "live" when the cars are "ready". I was hoping to get a dash mount setup, but the Garmin requires a windshield installation.
