Use the dimmer to the left of the steering column, rotate it up. If it clicks, then even at night you'll remain in brightest daytime mode. If you have it set to max right before the click, it'll switch over to night mode when the lights are turned on and reduce intensity on the dash lights.
assuming you have the dimmer already jacked up all the way, and the headlights off it will go no brighter than this.
What Paradox said: if you rotate the dial past the "click", you'll see the brightness will jack up quite a bit. I usually stay in "daylight" mode with the brightness dial....but sometimes I'll turn the dial down if I'm driving at night and want the NAV screen to switch to night mode.
This is one thing I miss from my prior car (built in 1994) - an ambient light sensor. The bright position of the dimmer is too bright for nighttime driving (too much glare off the windshield) but the setting just before the click is too dim for daytime driving.
The default brightness for the meter, nav system, and instrument panel is 0 (zero), but can be adjusted by the dealer from -2 to +2.
Let me clarify: If the headlights are OFF, it does not make any difference where the "headlights on" dash dimmer control is positioned (it can be all the way down); the dash lights will always be at maximum brightness. That is the brightness I would like to increase. Since I do not have the "Nav" feature, I am not sure if the "-2, 0, +2" adjustment is applicable. Does that just apply to the sensitivity to determine when the brightness changes? Thanks for your comments. I will check with my Dealer Monday.
I'm not sure what you're saying here. The headlights just has two settings: regular beams and high beams. Both of which are dictated by the stick on the left of the steering wheel. The dash/instrumentation dimmer is a dial to the left of that (on the actual dashboard) on the lefthand side of the driver's control set. The only thing this dial does is adjust the instrument's brightness setting (it doesn't effect the headlights).
I said nothing about the brightness of the headlights. I am talking about the dash (instrumentation) display brightness. Notice the thread title?

Went to the dealer this morning and had the Reverse beep changed to the single beep mode. However he said that there was no Customization to increase the daylight brightness of the dash lights. By the way, no charge for the change of the Reverse Beeping.
Thanks for this instruction. My son was in my car and changed the dimmer and the manual did not help.
