We have the initial prediction of March 31- April 3 for peak bloom in 2016. This is slightly before average date, in contrast to last couple years we've been very cold and late at April 10 or so for peak bloom. I thought maybe this year would be very early due to El Nino but Jan/Feb temps here were just about average. March has been warmer but a little snow coming Friday. There is a predictive model based on temperatures from prior fall through spring. Inevitably perhaps, authors predict earlier though this century from climate change. Has not happened yet though.
In case we have fleets of Prii driving to see the DC Cherry Blossoms, the Park Service has revised to as early as March 18 for peak bloom. This was my prediction too for El Nino year, very early. Last year was very late. We have 80F today winter proclaimed over this week and almost summer now.
