So, took my beloved "Door Stop" into the dealer for its 15000 mile service yesterday. Picked it up, then had to go get gas. While pumping the gas, noticed that the rear driver's side bumper panel was popped out. Upon further inspection, noticed a big ol' scrape with fresh cinderblock (I assume) dust on it. (About 6 inches wide and 18" long) Took it back to the dealer immediately. I don't throw fits, but showed them what had happened, letting them know that I knew it was fresh because of the cinderblock dust (I had just washed the car the day before, thank God). They didn't argue, but agreed to fix the scrape, which, of course, tells me they knew they did it and just hoped I wouldn't catch it. They said they would buff it out, smooth out the gouging, and repaint that area. My question is: will that work?

If it doesn't then you need to persist in having them repair it to the condition it was in before they did the damage. They should have coverage for this sort of thing. At my first or second tire rotation my dealer scraped my rim a bit. It really wasn't that bad and I may not have ever noticed it had they not been forthright and pointed it out. In fact not only did they point it out, but they first apologized that the service had taken a little longer than expected. That they had already ordered the ($400) replacement rim. They asked if that would be OK and told me when to expect it to come in. No THAT is the kind of service that allows me to go back to that service dept. in good confidence. They obviously knew they'd scraped the wall in your case and were ultimately deceptive about it...not a good sign IMO.
