'The reports of hybrid death have been greatly exaggerated.' (thanks Mark Twain) Prius hatchback growing, slowly but still positive slope 2nd tier Leaf looking good Jetta TDI hit hard Camry and Ford Fusion neck-and-neck . . . something to say for comfort? Prius c and Prius v - slow decline 3d tier - new models and wanna-be solid growth Sonata falling off significantly Bob Wilson
Man, the Sonata hybrid has taken a dive over the past couple of months. It looks even worse with the Optima doing slow but steady growth over the same time. I suspect with the model age, end of year, and gas prices have lead many dealers to use incentives to move the Prius, and others, off the lot. The c and v are still new enough that the dealers and Toyota may not want to lower their perceived value. Likely covering them with increased sales of their FSP models. That may also be a factor with the Jetta TDI. The 2015 gets an updated drivetrain, I think it now uses SCR and DEF, so combined mpg went up 2. There may be deals on the 2014, but potential buyers may only be interested in the 2015 with the greater diesel to gasoline price difference.
thanks serge, you should post this in the 'why can't i get a 2015 pip in maryland' thread. i suppose the sales fluctuations have more to do with deep discounts and hov stickers than anything else. comment number 2 is interesting, 'pip has 4 star safety rating vs 5 for lift back, because pip rolls over more easily. i did not know that. and pip gets lower highway mpg, i did not know that either.
Wow, bad month for alt fuel vehicles, Jan 15. Hybrid, plugin, diesels, bad, double digit down from Dec '14.
at a buck something a gallon, if i was in a gasser and looking around? i wouldn't be looking at alt fuels either.
