I just got the VIN for my new Salsa #7 and wanted to see if there was a way to decode the VIN, just for fun. When we bought a new Honda Odyssey, the discussion forum there had a number-by-number key to the VIN and what each number meant--like this: Anyone know how to do this for a Prius? Yep, that link works. I actually have a little more generic explanation. The link is more Prius specific Region: 1 e.g. Asia Country: 1-2 e.g. Japan Manufacturer: 2-3 e.g. Toyota Model Specific: 4-8 e.g. options Check Digit: 9 Year: 10 e.g. 5 = 2005, y = 1999 Assembly Plant: 11 Serial No.: 12-17
