Back story, I've been borrowing my father's 2008 Prius off of him since I took a new job and my Tacoma doesn't get the best mpg, and finally purchased it off of him. Its making a new sounds though and he wants to get it fixed if its something major. Its a quiet peeping that can be heard inside the car when coming to a stop (just when its quiet.) I've tracked the sound down to the engine bay but cant pinpoint where it is exactly, somewhere on the drivers side and its more of a pulsating whining sounds. The water pump was replaced about 10k miles ago at 65k miles under warranty. Here's a video with the sound. I'm not talking about the electical type buzz or the clicking, but the other sounds that sounds like a pump trying to cycle and its just pulsating a whine instead.
If you go to the Toyota owners web site, register and register the car (which includes giving them the VIN number), it will tell you what recall work has been done (well, if it was done at a TOY dealer anyway).
Have you checked the inverter coolant reservoir to see if 1.) it's full of coolant 2.) it's circulating the coolant It could possibly need to have the air bled out of the inverter coolant system.
