Bringing back to life a 2005 Prius with 230,000 miles that sat for 2 years. Hybrid battery had been replaced in 2016 when car had 200,000 miles. Replaced the starter battery and the car came back to life. It created a bunch of codes in that start up process. Unfortunately I did not write them down. I used a FixD obd scanner to reset the codes and have put about 150 miles on the car. No codes showed up on review by the FixD and it passed Texas inspection. I had an independent auto tec review the car to determine what mechanical issues I might have. During the process he ran a Vehicle Diagnostic Report. The printout label says "MaxiSys Vehicle Diagnostic Report - Autel." This report showed a B1271 code in history and during auto scan of 14 items, item 10 says Gateway Fault. All other items scanned passed and I am not experiencing any obvious symptoms. All displays (speedometer, door sensor, Nav system, etc) appear to be functioning normally. There are no active codes. Should I be concerned about the Gateway fault or could this be a holdover from the startup process. The tech said he could not reset the codes and I assume the fault indication. Trying to get the car in shape so my grandsons can drive it around town. Was owned by a good friend who passed away and they always took care of it and kept it well maintained. Have changed the oil and am beginning to replaces shocks and tires. Just wondering what to watch for. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Usually a B1271 is set when there is a problem with the Combination Meter ("speedometer") not turning on properly. Very common for a failing capacitor on the CM circuit board to affect things. Initially it is intermittent, and can be affected by temperature and voltage level of the 12V battery. Eventually it gets worse, the CM won't turn on (speedo & warning lights stay blank), the car has difficulty powering on & off. If your car works ok right now (&/or you already had the CM repaired or replaced) then run it and see how it does. There's a sticky thread about it at the top of the Care, Maintenance, & Troubleshooting forum. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Since it is in the history file, could it be there as a result of the old starter battery dying while it set for two years and now is not longer an issue. The code does not show as an active problem.
