I know this was discussed last year but I can't find it with search, so here goes. My Gen III Model II AC display, the one that shows the climate control set temperature and outside temperature is difficult to impossible to read from the drivers seat when it is sunny and bright outside. The LCD display doesn't seem to have enough contrast. I'm not referring to the Sun shining of it, anytime it is really bright outside, the display can't be read without getting within a foot or so of it and sometimes shading it with your hand. Dealer says that's normal, I think not being able to read the display from the drivers seat on a bright day shouldn't be normal. Does anyone else have this same problem? I have other cars with similar LCD displays that are easy to read so am familiar with how they can work. Or, can you easily read the climate control temperature and outside temperature on a bright day from the drivers seat? If you know where the old thread with the service bulletin for early Gen IIIs is, please post a link to that.
Thanks 32k. Is there a Mother Lode of TSBs someplace that the public has access to? That's the TSB I saw before. It doesn't apply to my car because my car was built after the problem was "corrected". It's good amuntion to have though, so thanks.
You can access the TIS at techinfo.toyota.com but it requires a subscription. For free, see Car Maintenance Schedules, Recalls, and Technical Service Bulletins but it's extremely slow to update and not that useful unless you wait a few years.
ALLDATAdiy.com :: Access Automotive Technical Service Bulletin and Recall Information Will give you general info on TSBs and recalls also. Don't know what to tell you about the display, however.
A follow up on my dim AC display. I didn't press the issue the first time because the problem wasn't a really big deal and I planned to get it taken care of next trip to the dealer. When I took the car in for the 10k mile service I reported the same problem, except this timie I told them I had looked at other 2010 Prii and mine was much harder to read than the others. The service manager agreed that it wasn't right and ordered a new unit which they installed several days later. The service manager also volunteered that there was a service bulletin out for the display, so I didn't have to show him the copy I had in my pocket.
The Critter started a thread on Gen III TSB's and it was made in to a sticky at the top of the Gen III Technical Discussion category. This is the first time that I have seen the AC TSB. We need to add this to the TSB sticky thread.
32K, How about posting this TSB in the Gen III (2010+) Technical Discussions TSB sticky thread started by The Critter? Thanks, Dwight
I didn't get the present TSB number. The TSB for earlier Gen IIIs is at http://priuschat.com/forums/attachm...-0387-09-c-control-display-difficult-read.pdf FWIW, list price on the part is $494.48
