Last week I installed my XM radio in the car. One of the first steps in the instructions is to disconnect the negative side of the 12V battery. Everything went farly well and I reconnected the battery. I noticed a few things were reset to defaults or zero. The trip milages were zero, the MFD milage and MPG were zero, and the backup beep was back on.

One of the things that had me scratching my head was the average MPG on the MFD. The first 5 minute bar I had after reconnecting the battery was just above 25 MPG but the average said 19.1 MPG. It also took quite a few miles (80+) to get my MPG reading back to its usual 49-51MPG.

I'm just curious as to how much of the computer gets reset when you disconnect the battery. Does it have to go back and relearn my driving habits/area/usage patterns?

I have to fill the tank today and I'll reset the MFD. I'll see if that makes any difference in the weirdness.

Your driver's window will probably not auto-up correctly.

If you lower it then raise it while holding up the switch until it closes, I think it'll work by itself again...
