Help! Two days ago, the local dealership diagnosed my 2007 Prius (so far trouble-free) with an internal leak in my ABS Actuator Assembly. It's a $1,800 part and $900 labor/rest of parts, etc. for a total go $2,700. I have 108,000 on the car and no extended warranty. Without dwelling on "should have bought an extended warranty," what should I do? I absolutely cannot afford that price. Should I shop around for a different shop, even though I paid them the diagnostic fee? Should I trade in the car? For a new, a lease? Help!
Shop around for another repair shop, it is a virtual guarenty, that no one's quote will be higher than the dealer. Don't give up on that car at 108 it still has life left in it.
Marcus it is unfortunate we have to meet under these circumstances. Brake actuator replacement in pictures | PriusChat shows a brake actuator replacement. The parts price might be a bit high but the bottom line is it ain't cheap. What are the symptoms? How long do be believe you can continue driving the car? I wouldn't sink $2700 into repairs because sooner rather than later something else is going to be needed. I'd buy a 2015. Leasing is almost never a good idea.
