If you are backing up while parallel parking or doing a 3 point turn in a woody area (like a campsite) will the sensors alert you if you are backing up into a tree? Or even a hill? Are all directions covered or just reverse?
Sensors are ultrasonic, so will detect trees as well as anything else solid. And they cover front and back at minimum, 4 sensors each, with a bit more wing coverage from another 4 sensors if you've got the Advanced Park (together with the cameras).
My parents RDX complains about bushes. I'd be more careful around small diameter trunks. Ones smaller than a bollard at a parking lot. The system might miss them.
my XLE complains about the guard posts at the drive-thru window at the local taco bell, random bushes, and overly-tall grass, so I have to imagine trees are going to be picked up easily enough.
What version of Toyota safety sense? We had a weird thing in our 2020Rav4HV SS2.0 I was backing up very slowly out of parking spot at Walmart, and I guess some lady pulled out quickly behind me and grazed our rear bumper without any warning signal from our car.
The '23 prius has TSS 3.0. So far, no issues here with detecting vehicles and pedestrians in front of or behind me.
