Although I have had my 2004 for a more than a year I had never heard the HV battery cooling fan until tonight. When I pulled out of the garage I could hear a a failrly loud fan running apparently in the right rear. I turned off the AC and the radio but it kept on for about a mile and then quit. I assume it was an HV battery cooling fan, but I had never heard it before. Do you hear it? The outside temperature was not hot, (about 73, this is San Diego) and the car had been in the garage. Thanks Tickwood
Nope, I never heard it. But I remember during summer and hotter days (and better MPG ), passengers in the back notice wind in that opening where the fan is. I just told them not to block it.
Never but I almost always have tunes on, except when I am totally focused on the car and have the sound off, fan off. I can not say that I have ever heard it. Maybe only passengers would hear it?
Nope, never had it on. I guess it doesn't get hot enough here to mandate the need for the fan to turn on.
i've heard it several times, but only when i've had the stereo on kinda quiet. typically only on pretty hot days when i first get the car going.
I have not heard the battery fan, however a passenger in my back seat some time back did hear it and asked. I'm glad I knew it was there and as such I informed her of what it was and that was the end of the story.
once and only for about 1 1/2 minutes. It was hot and the car had soaked all day with the windows up.
I had mine come on once. It was strange, it was about 70F out and was parked to let someone run into a store really quick and the ICE started going on and off every 2-3 seconds. Then I heard the HV fan go on. So, I turned the car off and it ICE stopped going on and off and the fan did not come back on. I guess a bug in the system? That was the only time I heard the fan and had the ICE go on and off every couple seconds.
Back in August, I heard it once. The ambient was around +34 C, I had parked at St Vital Centre mall for a luncheon meeting at Moxie's Restaurant. Around 3pm went out to the car, parked in the bright sun, got in, and powered up. As I was powering down the windows and about to spin up the A/C, I heard this soft whooshing from the back seat. I got out to investigate and sure enough, I could feel the hot air coming from the passenger side vent. I know I didn't hear it last week when it was -20 C. I guess my teeth were chattering too much. <_<
