Does the C have an oil life monitor or is it like my Gen II where a light comes on at the appropriate time telling me to change my oil? Couldn't find anything about this in the C manual I downloaded. Thx.
The regular 2010 Prius liftback has a maintenance warning at 5000 miles (I don't remember reading anything about it in the manual at the time either). It's probably safe to say that the c has a similar feature.
all toyota's that i know of have a main't req'd light.. it's nothing more than a mileage counter to remind you when to change your oil.. that's the light you're pretty much looking for.
The owners manual discusses resetting the maintenance light on P. 349. Since there are little pissant things to do every 5000 miles, like rotate tires, it is not clear to me if it comes on every 5K for those, or every 10K for the oil.
the light starts flashing at 4500 miles from its prior reset.. as an indication that the upcoming oil change is needed.. then after it hits the 5000 mile mark, it stays on.
though the maintenance recommends the oil changes to be 10K instead of 5K.. if you look carefully, it still does suggest changing it every 5K if the vehicle is driven in harsher conditions. specifically.. "Repeated trips of less than five miles in temperatures below 32°F / 0°C" and "Extensive idling and/or low speed driving for a long distance such as police, taxi or door-to-door delivery use" but otherwise... yea.. 10K is fine.
"Low speed" for me is under 25 mph, but I don't know how Toyota defines it. Still, this is strange, since drivers don't normally cruise below 25 mph for long distances.
