Something strange happened today. We pulled up in a parking lot. Once my wife got out of the car, I tapped the drivers outside door handle. Instead of the short chirp that I normally hear when the door locks, there was a long, maybe 10 second, chirp. When we returned to the car a few minutes later, I discovered that the doors had not locked. Has anyone else experienced this? Any idea what might cause it? I know now that if I hear that long chirp that the car is not secured.
One of those signals can mean the car wasn't turned off. Another can mean a fob was left inside. I forget which is which, offhand. It's easy to forget when the car isn't off, if the engine has stopped.
Thanks for the info. From your comments, it may have been due to my wife leaving her purse in the car. Her purse had her key fob for the car in it. We were just going to run into the library to drop off a book. My wife lost her key for our 08 Odyssey. The 08 still requires a key. The Honda tech recommended that we should purchase at least two new keys at $35 so that we have a spare. They have to cut the key(s) to fit the lock and then they have to program them for the vehicle immobilizer. The immobilizer programming is a one time $80 charge no matter how many keys they do. All these new systems on current cars take some getting used to. I have been driving since the 60's when most cars didn't have power locks and most people, myself included didn't bother locking their cars.
I only have one wallet. It's safe to say that my wife has more than one purse. When she thought that she lost the keys to our Odyssey, they ended up being found in a side pocket of another purse. Jerry Mildred said "My wife has helped me to memorize the sound of that long beep." I guess that I will be memorizing that beep too.
Yup. My wife likes to take a big purse and a small one. Then she tends to leave the big one with the keys in the hatch area.
Once when I got out of my Prius to refuel it it gave me a very long and loud beep. I couldn't figure out what was going on, so I proceeded with refueling. When I got into the car to drive away, I noticed that the gear was on "D" (with car "Ready") . Luckily I had set the parking brake (if I hadn't, I probably would have realized it soon enough). And yes, I too recognize the long beep due to another fob in the car.
