I have a 2008 prius with 130K miles. Have not done much to it other than change oil and tires/headlights a few times. I have a new job in Anchorage Alaska and am considering driving it up there. I am going to have the serpentine belt replaced and a new set of tires. Any other suggested preventative maintenance? Should I replace the inverter coolant pump and/or spark plugs?

Sailing To and From Bellingham I think these are all different sites for the same ship. 1) cuts 2300 miles off the car travel 2) eliminates all the 'remote' parts of the trip. 3) comparative luxury 1700 miles by car to Bellingham WA vs 4000 miles to Anchorage by car
I would take it to a dealer, so they do all the recalls. I would do the 120,000 service that Toyota specifies: http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/omms/T-MMS-08Prius/pdf/Prius08SMG.pdf 2008 Prius Scheduled Maintenance Guide 120,000 Miles or 144 Months Replace cabin air filter Replace engine air filter Replace engine oil and oil filter Replace spark plugs Rotate tires Inspect the following: __ Automatic transmission fluid (I would change this with Toyota WS-ATF, but that is personal opinion) __ Ball joints and dust covers __ Brake lines and hoses __ Brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs __ Drive belts __ Drive shaft boots __ Engine valve clearance __ Engine/inverter coolant __ Exhaust pipes and mountings __ Front differential oil __ Fuel lines and connections, fuel tank band and fuel tank vapor vent system hoses __ Fuel tank cap gasket __ Radiator, condenser and/or intercooler __ Steering gear box __ Steering linkage and boots
The elderly small spoiled dog makes the drive necessary. The ferries require they stay in your car during the voyage with small visits allowed.
The restriction on the visits is so that you do not gain access to unattended vehicles, but yes, the dog has to stay on the vehicle deck. It is a five day trip, you would get to know the purser well. "Can I take my pet (cat or dog, snake, bird, fish) with me on the ferry? You can take your pet on most vehicle /passenger ferries however the pets will have to stay on the car deck. Access to the vehicle deck to feed, walk & "water" your pet on the longer voyages is provided by the ships purser."
all good advice from jumbo, you may want to plot out the toyota dealerships along your route, ahead of time. my daughter just got back from alaska, loved the scenery. her friends who have been there for awhile find it a bit isolating. all the best!
