I have a 2006 Gen II Prius with 120k miles. I recently removed the drums on the rears and want to know if I should replace these shoes? These are the original brakes, the front pads look about 60% worn. Please advise...
The Prius brakes are special because there's regenerative braking....everything is electronic until you go under 7mph, then your brake pads/shoes kick in I just changed my front brakes for the first time at 170k miles
I've done all the maintenance on this car myself and it continues to impress me. There is so much clever engineering in this car. And I can honesty say, that this 10 year old car, every button, knob, switch, etc works properly.
The new brake shoe lining is 4 mm thick and the spec for replacement is at 1 mm. It looks like you have plenty of lining thickness left. There is very little reason for the rear brake lining to wear unless you leave the parking brake engaged while driving the car.
