The owners manual states there should be two optional DSP modes on the Advanced. The first DSP mode should enable an automatic sound volume control that adjusts the sound output and to some degree adjusts the frequency response curve to compensate for ambient sounds as the vehicle speed and perceived road noise levels change. This feature is in the selection menu. The second user selectable mode is listed in the manual as "Surround Sound" and I cannot seem to find it anywhere in the sound systems menus. Is this an option that needs to be enabled by the dealer through a "secret menu" the owners don't have access to?
You would think that the DVD player might be capable of reproducing multi-channel sound if the DVD played is a surround sound DVD. I have tried playing my SACD and other Surround DVDs without success. I mean, they play fine, but there's no sense of anything more than 2.1 This link, JBL Premium Audio for your Toyota vehicle , tells us that theres "600 Equivalent Watts" from 8 channels. So it's an interesting question. Does it surround or doesn't it?
I know in my Acura's they had surround sound DVD-A. I have one I will put in and see if the surround sound becomes available.
