Looks like someone is parting out their HV battery... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/toyo...oryZ6763QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I don't think they even know exactly what they've got...doesn't say what model year Prius it's from. Doesn't say how many miles on the battery (critical if you're replacing an individual cell). And the kicker is that there are VERY few individuals that are capable of both identifying an isolated cell that's bad and then successfully and safely replacing said individual cell. Too bad these folks don't check with us before making such a silly auction.
I myself don't have a need for any cells, or for that matter the whole battery as well, but I ran across this on Ebay today. Mabe someone could take the time to contact the seller through Ebay's mail since there is a lot of time left on this auction and find out the particulars about the battery and where it came from, etc., especially if they are capable of such repairs. Definately NOT a project for the normal backyard mechanic to take on. I wouldn't attempt it myself! Just posted as a FYI...
they use the same type of battery. same set up. not the same battery though. the cells are different. just like my parents rx400h isn't compatible with my prius. it has a bit higher voltage. (better cells i assume)
The 2001-2003 Prius battery cells are *not* interchangeable with the 2004-onwards. Don't wish to appear picky (V8Cobrakid), but to obtain a different overall voltage, one needs a different number of NiMH cells in series. Better cells may do a lot of things, but they are limited by their chemistry to providing a nominal 1.2 to 1.4 (different descriptions exist) volts each. Happy New Year to all, and please nobody get hurt by going into that big battery pack. Tricky stuff in there.
