2011 Chevrolet Cruze: The Dexose Oil Specification Interesting... I'd never heard of dexos oil before. Apparently, it's a new GM standard. More info at GM dexos information center. What's more interesting is that in the above long term entry, their dealer didn't even have any (and thus didn't put in dexos oil during an oil change) and that most of the local Chevy dealers hadn't even heard of it.
It would appear that GM this year is not doing any better than Toyota last year at communicating to it's owners and dealer about oil.
VW has also switched to specifying only full synthetic oil. It seems that modern engine design, poor dino oil quality in the US and the sloppy maintenance habits of US owners have all of the manufacturers worried about sludge. JeffD
In US of A "synthetic" could mean alot of different things, Group III base dino oils called "Full Synthetic"
Toyota had a problem a while back and I think it worried a lot of manufacturers: Toyota Sludge Zone TOYOTA ENGINES AND OIL SLUDGE - WALL ST JOURNAL - Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums
