So I stupidly piled up all my 12mm and 10mm head bolts in removing my EGR system and intake. Most of the bolts are identical, or obvious in their location. I've got "long" 10mm bolts for the airbox, short 10mm without washer for the EGR tube, 12mm for intake manifold and EGR Cooler. Two that stand out are 10mm head with washer on them. Shorter, like the other EGR tube bolts. Anyone know where these go?
Hopefully Mendel can post the repair manual page soon. I’m not near a computer to find it easily. If you need a link to the manual, the quickest address I can think of is over on clublexus, ct forum, rough start sticky. -Spiral
I suspect these bolts are bracket bolts - where the EGR system mounts to the valve cover or similar. Reason being - all the other part nuts and bolts for the EGR lack washers. All the bolts for the air box have got them.
Post pictures of them? A few odd-ball bolts I can think of: 1. The third bolt on the intake manifold end of the egr pipe. The one that just holds the plastic cover. 2. The bolt holding the gas tank vapour valve, bolted on right side of intake manifold. That one's a 12 mm (socket size) though, IIRC. 3. Hold-down bolt for the MAP sensor, on right side of intake manifold, just below throttle body. I have a window ledge adjacent to the engine bay. I like to stack bolts (and various small bits), going left-to-right, and put a bit of masking tape just below, with a short description. The (7?) air box and snorkel bolts, I always throw into the air box, keeps them separate at least.
When you reinstall the EGR pipe, you attach the pipe and then a hard black plastic cover. The bolt which holds the plastic cover on has a washer. The other bolt with a washer I think holds something to the valve cover (up top)... I don’t exactly recall though.
I used these washer-equipped bolts on the EGR Pipe-to-Intake Manifold. Not sure if that was the correct placement, but whatever.
