EGR Valve replacement

    Hello all!

    Just wanted to find out if it were possible/easy to just replace the EGR valve by itself. I recently did the whole cooler, intake, valve, etc. cleaning, but now just want to replace the valve itself and really do not want to have to take out the cooler again so soon.

    I was able to get a brand new Toyota EGR valve (from the kit p/n) for $150 USD, and am hoping it's a fairly easy job to do versus taking out the entire assembly. For reference, when I did the cooler cleaning, I did remove and leave out the bottom stud that is such a pain in the rear.

    Anyways, thanks for any insights in advance!

    I think the cooler mounting points have to be loosened some to finagle the valve off, but it can be done without full disassembly.

    I’d just take it out again. And the wiper/cowl paraphernalia.

    If you remove lower cooler nut and stud (can be done in advance), you’ll then be able to fish the full assembly out without removing the rearmost pair of studs )at exhaust manifold connection), and the gasket there will be retained by the studs, won’t be prone to dropping down.

    also, if you drain 2 qts engine coolant (at the radiator drain) before pulling hoses off the cooler, the level drops enough you’ll not be spilling coolant. Just pour it back into reservoir after; it’ll be a little high but will settle down with a little driving.

    Thank you for the replies.

    I'm aware and fully ready to take the wiper cowl off regardless, but was just hoping not to have to take out the entire cooler again after such a short time. But if it has to be done, so be it. As mentioned, I did permanently remove the stud/nut on the bottom, so at least that part is already done! Perhaps I don't even need to remove the coolant lines? I can just loosen the assembly, remove the valve and replace it without too much hassle. Fingers crossed!

    Though now that I think of it, I may need to order a new rear stud because the old one did snap off... I can still thread the nut on it, but the hex bit snapped off. So, yea, we shall see what happens this weekend when I work on it.
