Thanks to a lot of info on this forum I finally finished my dash. Let me know what you think. MODS Steering 1.) JDM Luna Steering wheel (black leather/black stitching) 2.) Removed Toyota emblem from steering wheel and backed with left over wood dash piece. 3.) Installed steering wheel covers and painted flat black with Duplicolor adhesion promoter/flat black Dash 1.) Painted glove box/right vent, center console, and cupholder lid with Duplicolor adhesion promoter/flat black. I can't say enough good things about this product. Finish looks OEM and is tough as nails. Have applied Aerospace 303 with no problems (3 months). Key is prep/promoter/multi coats. I painted the center console piece so there is no bisque peeking through anywhere (especially ashtray area)..dead giveaway to non-oem look. 2.) Applied wood dash from 2 sources. CarID for long piece that spans the whole center console and an Ebay seller called Coolcustomcar. Paltinum burl/honey teak are the same thing and match perfectly. 3.) Installed black edition OGS. Forget waiting for the LHD version..you use the buttons instinctively after a couple days. I really like my interior now and I know that there are those that hate the wood dash look (often too much) but I wanted the center console to be the highlight. The black continuation of the dash all the way over really ties everything together I think. Love my Prius!
Definitely not for me but what matters is if YOU like it. Thanks for sharing and posting up pics for others to see!
Thanks. Black would be awesome too. WEAR A MASK as the fumes are really really bad. The steering wheel was easy to switch out as well...no puller needed.
thanks! I am working on the pulling the interior together now.. we are having our baby this week and I put the car seat in.. so thats a mod!! lol I like the steering wheel.. got any info on it? I wanted to add that I really like how you pieced things together .. you didn't settle with just one dash kit, but 2 different ones to get what you wanted!! great job.. not many people willing to go that far to get things how they want.. and also, thumbs up for DIY with the black paint.. came out great!
IMO, wood doesn't belong in the Prius but of all the dash trims I've seen yours looks the nicest, especially given that you've replaced the sporty stock steering wheel that looks totally out of place with wood. I particularly like the trim on the center console.
Thanks 32K...means a lot coming from you. My Valenti taillights still are my favorite mod! The steering wheel I got from Rakuten. Just search for ZVW30 Leather Steering Wheel and find one that is black leather/black stitch. There are a few different sellers all with the same wheel (they run about $250) I set up a Tenso account and they shipped it out super fast when it arrived. Be sure to find a seller that accepts Visa as some do not.
The airbag covers are designed with panels that tear away easily--this is on the inside of the cover where you cannot see the marks. So it just tears--not opens and flings. I would be more worried about a plastic cup or laptop in hand at the time of an accident. My wife is constantly on her Ipad in the car.
looks very nice. As a woodworker I am curious about the wood grain. What kind of material is it really? Plastic, vinyl?
lol..while it's referred to as a wood dash kit...it's definitely not wood. It is an epoxy covered wood pattern over a 3m adhesive (like Dinoc). This protects it from UV fading and abrasions. There are some higher end kits that claim to use real wood (still epoxy covered though). I think when you see anything that bends and curves to the dash you have to assume it has some plastic in it. That being said I am very happy with it!
Yeah, Lexus uses real wood veneer on plastics (although the older models used to have blocks of real wood and you could actually see wood splinters in a crushed Lexus that's been in an accident).
