Electricals took 10+ min to be ready. Finally started.

    Our Prius took a long time to be ready to start this morning. It was kind of like the various electrical components were taking a long time to allow starting.
    • Only a few dashboard lights were on
    • Car engine didn't come on
    • Pressing Start wouldn't cause car to turn off
    • Headlights, windows working
    • Fuses seemed ok (but I don't know what to look for)
    • Put key fob in dash receptor, and it wouldn't let it be withdraw
    • Transmission would go into Neutral and back to Park.
    • Finally decided to let it roll down the driveway and get it out of the way.
    • Then LCD started behaving normally, and car decided to "come to life" and seemed fine.
    • Started and I drove it around the block.
    • Key fob releasable.
    • Didn't notice any Warning or Error messages, or any other unexpected icons. Didn't notice what the status of Ready was. IIRC, the "Check" light was on, maybe.
    • All the above was spread out over 10+ minutes.
    • Lots of random things tried, so I have no idea what might have caused it to decide to work ok.
    • Never seen this behavior before.
    • New AUX battery about a year ago, if that matters.

    Check the current condition of the 12 volt battery, first: measure it's voltage with a digital multimeter, for some clues to it's status. Likely ok, maybe not.

    Pressing Start for 3 seconds should have put the car into ACC mode then pressing it twice quickly should turn it off.foot off the brake..
    as for the rest it sounds like the combo meter (speedometer ,gas gauge ect) is going bad.
    a year old battery does not mean its still good, remove it and have it tested .

    and make sure you step on the brake hard.

    Check the negative cable where it connects to the frame. Sometimes this can cause problems.
