Engine Air Filter 17801-37021 vs 17801-YZZ12?

    So just got back from the parts department at my local Toyota dealership and grabbed a new engine air filter.

    The part they sent me back with is 17801-YZZ12

    However, the air filter in there right now is 17801-37021

    They look absolutely identical except one is Made in Japan (37021) while the other is USA (YZZ12).

    Everything I can find online shows the correct part number as beeing 17801-37021 however as I mentioned above they are absolutely identical from what I can tell. I'm not super worried about it but wanted to see if anyone knows why they would have two almost identical parts?

    You pretty much answered it yourself, "one is Made in Japan (37021) while the other is USA (YZZ12)" Toyota sells cars worldwide, so it makes sense they manufacture some filters in Japan (for the world) and in USA (for their largest market)...

    Both part numbers you mentioned are listed for the 2010–2015 Prius on page 2 of Toyota’s air filter cross-reference chart (PDF).

    Thank you. I had the old air filter cross-reference chart and it did not have both part numbers. I did a search on the forum for the new part number and didn't find any threads. Thanks for the clarification.
