I have a 2013 Prius trim two whose engine splash shield (the plastic cover on the bottom) is a bit damaged. I bought a replacement part from Carparts and brought it to the Prius dealership to have it installed. They told me the part didn't fit. However when I check the part number they are exactly the same, and Carparts says it's guaranteed to fit. I'm utterly confused at this point. I don't know what else specs I need to check to make sure the part fits, and I'm scared to buy another piece online that won't fit. Does anyone have any insight? For reference, part #6 is what I'm talking about: (see pic) And I bought this one: (search 5141012105 on Carparts) Sorry can't post links! If you scroll down, you can see the specs say: Replaces OE Number: 5141012105-PFM Am I missing something?
Some of the aftermarket covers offset the the rear holes slightly especially if you try to reuse the sound insulation. Otherwise I would return it and get a used oem cover at your local LKQ salvage yard, their online store or ebay. At the moment ebay only has new "genuine oem" for about $175. LKQOnline
No insulation is included so aftermarket is different in that respect from the oem product. The depth of these covers is less than oem and is not enough to reuse the existing clip on insulation, while still allowing every perimeter screw to fit. The center clearance hole for the under engine jack point is also too small and is offset but can be trimmed to clear the metal. So if you want to compromise a little and have no sound, vibration or extra impact protection insulation, then aftermarket can be made to work. Certainly better than leaving the complex hybrid components exposed under the car. OEM is better.
