Here is an excellent blog discussing the possible future outlook for EV's and power generation in the post-Japan Tsunami era. The author talks about many issues we have been discussing, namely the benefits (or lack there of) for EV's, significance of the nuclear part of the overall tragedy (epic), and he also has a commentary about whether or not stopping petroleum imports is truly a key driver - not clear to me where he comes out on that issue.
